The technology that we use in this project is based on the Mu tag from Hitachi. This tag was originally developed to support the anti-counterfeit system on Japanese banknotes where unique and immutable numbers are essential. The same technology is exactly applicable to any other very high volume authentication process and in particular to items where authenticity is more than just a commercial accounting convenience. When medication is copied or tampered with, life may be threatened and when the market for the medication is global and quantities high, accurate and fast authentication is essential. The Mu tag seemed to fit the needs of the project perfectly and could co-reside with other technologies on the trial product. We see this as a very powerful demonstrator project and look forward to the commercialisation phases in the future.
